Terms of Use
Last updated: 26 October 2026
By using Roam Northumberland you agree to this. It's short.
What Roam Northumberland is
A guide to places in Northumberland, written by someone who has walked to all of them. It tells you what is there, roughly what the walk involves, and where to park.
It is not a safety service, a navigation system, or a substitute for your own judgement.
Going outdoors is your responsibility
This is the part that matters, so it is not in small print.
Northumberland has tidal causeways, sea cliffs, deep peat, and hills where people get into serious trouble every winter. Conditions change by the hour. A description written months ago cannot know what today is like.
- Check official sources before you travel. For Holy Island, use Northumberland County Council's published safe crossing times — not this app, and not a tide table. For the hills, use a mountain weather forecast.
- The weather information in the app is a forecast from a third party, shown with its source and the time it was fetched. It is not a guarantee. Where no forecast can be reached the app says so rather than guessing, but a forecast it did reach may still be wrong, incomplete, or older than the timestamp suggests.
- Walk times, parking and access can change — a gate gets locked, a car park closes, a path erodes.
- You are responsible for deciding whether to go, what to take, and when to turn back.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for what happens on a visit you chose to make. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, because the law does not allow that to be limited.
Access and land
Being listed here is not permission to be somewhere. Some places are private, some are working farms, some charge for entry. Follow the Countryside Code, respect signage, and leave when asked.
Roam Pro
Pro unlocks suggested ordering for your trips ("Order my day"), opening a whole trip in Google Maps in the order shown, offline maps for the whole county, and removes the paid local business listings.
Suggested orders are worked out from straight-line distance, not roads. They are a starting point, not a route plan, and you can always reorder stops yourself. When a trip is sent to Google Maps, each stop goes to a checked arrival point where one exists, otherwise to the nearest car park mapped on OpenStreetMap, otherwise to the place itself. Car parks found this way have not been checked on the ground — follow local signs, and don't park where you shouldn't. Longer trips are sent in parts so that no stop is dropped.
Ad-free is a separate one-off purchase. It removes those paid listings and nothing else — it adds no Pro map packs, and no opening of your trip in Google Maps.
- Payment is taken by Apple, charged to your Apple Account at confirmation.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless you turn renewal off at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of the current period, at the price shown when you subscribed.
- Manage or cancel in the Settings app on your iPhone → your name → Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- A free trial, where offered, converts to a paid subscription unless cancelled at least 24 hours before it ends. Any unused part of a trial is forfeited if you subscribe during it.
- Prices are shown in your own currency before you buy and may change; you will always see the price before confirming.
- Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Apple's terms apply.
Local business listings
Some places near a site may be shown as paid placements. Where that's the case it is labelled. We don't inspect, endorse or guarantee any business listed, and anything you arrange with them is between you and them.
The writing and photographs
The stories, photographs and design are ours. Use the app for your own trips; don't republish the content.
Place names, historical facts and the locations themselves belong to nobody.
Changes to the app
Places get added, corrected and occasionally removed. Features may change. If we ever withdraw something you've paid for, Apple's refund process applies.
Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
